• Dr. Ryan Cox

Dr. Cox obtained his medical degree from international medical school St. George’s University on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Grenada. Dr. Cox was planning on becoming a family physician until he rotated in psychiatry. He loved working with patients who suffered from mental illness and specifically those who required inpatient hospitalization.

During his psychiatry residency through Central Michigan University he was offered a position at McLaren Bay with their inpatient geriatric unit. Dr. Cox accepted the position and found a new love within psychiatry, working with the geriatric population. While at lunch with his mentor, Dr. Nicholas, they discussed the difficulty their staff was having finding follow up psychiatry appointments for patients being discharged from their units. The discussion ultimately led to a recognition of the needs of the community and the birth of Serenity Bay Health.

Dr. Ryan L. Cox was born in Idaho and grew up in a small farming community called Rigby. He worked on his family farm up until he left for a 2 year service mission for his church at the age of 19. After returning from his mission he worked and was intermittently attending school until he met his future wife that set him straight and gave him the encouragement and support he needed to finish his degree and go to medical school.

Dr. Cox and his family’s original plan was to come to Michigan for training and then return to the West however they love the Midland community where they live and feel Michigan is their home. Dr. Cox loves basketball, golfing, spending time with his kids and seeing how many times he can get his wife to roll her eyes at him in a day (current record 17).
